Child Centred

To be child centred means that the child is at the centre of everything we do it does not mean however that the children are in charge. The sensitive, thoughtful, caring professionals employed to work with the children are in control and facilitate the guided choices of the children.

As well as caring for your child, we know every day they spend with us is preparing them for school and all that lies beyond. That doesn?t mean we act like a school ourselves though! We simply aim to inspire children with a real love of learning through creative, well thought out, stimulating play. What separates us from other nurseries is the fact that we believe in natural play. Play comes naturally to children; we want to encourage and nurture that, giving them the freedom to let their imaginations roam free whilst making sure they feel safe and protected. Learning goes beyond the classroom and through play we also encourage children to make their own decisions, believe in themselves, try new things, make friends, empathise with their peers and most importantly, have fun. These are the things that make life enjoyable, not just for children but for grown-ups too! We offer a huge variety of activities including drawing and painting, writing, imaginative play, indoor and outdoor toys and apparatus, reading both in groups and individually, cooking and gardening, craft work and music and movement.

Our approach to childcare is inspired by the Montessori Method, a teaching method devised by Dr Maria Montessori at the beginning of the 20th century. Maria Montessori believed, above all, that you should care and respect for yourself, each other, and the environment around you and we think these are fantastic principles for life, however young or old you are. A great deal of what we do is guided by the Montessori Method, rather than being dictated by it, and we?re always open to, and mindful of, new ideas and different children?s needs of course. Maria Montessori saw children as having a natural curiosity for life and you only have to watch a child to see how they continually use their senses to explore and soak up knowledge, from the first moment they?re born. Her teaching method aims to nurture and develop this natural curiosity, she identified six teaching areas which we use to inspire and inform our play; Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, Language and Literacy, Knowledge and Understanding of the World and Creative Development. We use specially designed Montessori apparatus to show children things, rather than simply expecting them to understand our explanations. Why not come and take a look for yourself? As you know, children can learn an incredible amount through play and being shown how to do things in a fun and imaginative way, whether they?re growing sunflowers, learning how to tie shoelaces, painting a picture or dressing up. The possibilities are endless.
