Healthy children
We believe that children really do thrive when their physical and emotional needs are met.Children and babies have a biological drive to use their physical skills and benefit from physical activity, and we have a responsibility to ensure that they have a lovely welcoming space both indoors and out to play in.
At Angels, there are great outdoor spaces as well as cosy corners indoors and all the educational tools our staff need to help the children develop. Being physically healthy is not simply about having delicious, nutritious food. It also includes having a clean and safe environment, appropriate clothes, healthcare, mental stimulation, fresh air and loving relationships. For babies and children, rest and sleep is essential, which is why we have a separate sleep area for the tiny babies and encourage all toddlers and pre-school children to have a rest when they need one.
To encourage emotional wellbeing, we recognise that they enjoy close, warm and supportive relationships. The children make friends and getting on well with others helps them feel positive about themselves. Children gain a sense of wellbeing when they are encouraged to take responsibility and to join in by helping with manageable tasks that interest them – part of our Montessori ethos is to care for our environment as well as ourselves so watering the plants, feeding the fish or passing round the fruit at snack time are all valuable tools for fostering self-confidence.
Children feel a sense of belonging in their setting when parents are also involved, so we welcome the input of parents and carers if and when they can spare the time. We post information about the topics and events coming up in the nursery to encourage interaction between home and nursery.
